GLOBE in the UK
Here in the UK, we
have over 500 GLOBE Schools and over 1,000 GLOBE trained teachers. In
addition to collecting data, GLOBE students participate in international
partnerships, develop local projects, and use GLOBE to support other activities
such as EcoSchools and the
Government's 8 pillars for sustainable
schools. There's lots of things you can do - but it is all up to you
and your students.
How
to get involved
To become a registered GLOBE
school, at least one member of your
staff needs to attend an INSET training session
(usually lasting one day).
These are fun hands-on sessions, giving an
overview of how GLOBE works, as well as details of a
theme such as atmosphere, and practical sessions in the field and using the GLOBE
website at www.globe.gov.
Training
events are planned around the
UK on a demand-led basis. We
can deliver local INSET training sessions in schools, at LEAs
or in community centres or environmental centres, as long as
there are between 6 and 15 people to be trained.
The cost for training is £80 per teacher, inclusive of all
manuals and materials. And if you can provide a venue and
get at least 6 people there, one person can come for free!
All
training sessions are held at sites offering on-line
computer facilities, and provide you with a range of materials to help implement the project
in the classroom. We also aim to provide as much support to registered
GLOBE schools as possible, answering queries via email and telephone, and also providing school visits to talk to staff and students, if you want.
