The theme of the GLE is GLOBE Research for
Sustainable Communities, highlighted by student projects
showing the interconnections between the environmental, social
and economic issues in a student's community, and the balance
needed for healthy living.
There will be 4 strands for student projects: A.
Environment and Health; B. Water quality and availability; C.
Climate Change impacts D. Links to the new GLOBE Seasons project.
GLOBE-UK will be
supporting up to six students from one GLOBE school to go to the
GLE in South Africa. The
winning school will be selected on the basis of a student
research project submitted by 31 December 2007.
There are just three
rules for projects entered by GLOBE-UK Schools:
1. The student
research project must involve GLOBE data – either your own or
from another GLOBE School anywhere in the world.
2. The project
must involve students learning about science, creating
hypotheses, analysing data, drawing conclusions, and reporting
their results.
3.
The project must be within one of the four international strands
for all student projects - see above.
Entries can be
submitted in any format, but must arrive at GLOBE-UK's office at
Brandon Marsh Nature Centre, Coventry CV3 3GW by 31 December 2007
at the latest. If
you plan to enter a project, you are strongly advised to contact
us first at admin@globe.org.uk
Our judgment is final.
The wining school will be supported to go to the GLE in
South Africa through our paying for all conference fees.
We hope to get some sponsorship support to cover
transport as well, but students will need to provide some funds of their own.
More details later.
The students' research report should follow a well-structured
format that clearly conveys the details of the research
project. This format, and some related information, is described
in detail in the following two documents (available to all GLOBE
students world-wide):
