Sustainable Development Activities
In June this year GLOBE-UK launched its new classroom activities, designed to encourage students to measure and think about our impact on the environment. The activities can be used with the whole class or with small groups, and they could be repeated at regular intervals to monitor changes.
The activities are divided into five subject areas - Water, Waste, Transport, Energy and Biodiversity. - Sep 03

The Green Down Protocol asks students to use the special GLOBE colour chart to match the colour of the leaves with a code. By entering data onto the GLOBE database students will be contributing to research projects that look at such issues as Climate Change and Phenology. - Sep 03

The GLOBE Learning Expedition In June eight pupils from the Nicholas Chamberlaine School in Bedworth took part in GLOBE’s International Conference in Croatia. The pupils won the trip after writing a project using GLOBE data.
The prize did not come without commitments - the pupils had to present a paper in front of an international audience of scientists and students. The pupils also took part in GLOBE games, collecting environmental data in some of the beautiful National Parks near Sibenik.

Automated Weather Stations In response to requests from teachers GLOBE has introduced a new protocol for the use of automated data logging weather stations. The data loggers allow data to be collected at 15 minute intervals throughout the year - so no more problems over the weekend or during the holidays!
The huge amount of data collected by the loggers can be emailed directly to GLOBE - once a week or even once a term. Davis weather stations even allow data to be downloaded directly into the GLOBE format.
For more information or help about data loggers please contact us.

Well Done!!!!

Well Done to the WEA in Glasgow who incorporated GLOBE protocols into their adult education classes.

A final thank you to all the newly registered schools and teachers who have contributed to the GLOBE Programme and its continuing growth.
