Activity
1: My Place – The Biodiversity Profile for your school
Pupils will measure and classify
the main land-uses in a 3km by 3km area surrounding the school,
using the standard GLOBE system. They also measure the
amount of land that is protected in some way.
Activity
2: School Grounds - mapping
habitats in the school grounds
Pupils produce a map of the school
grounds identifying all the different habitats in the school
grounds.

3: Identifying Trees - identifying all the trees in the
grounds
Pupils
will use an identification
key to name all the trees in the school grounds - both common
and Latin names.
Activity
4: Tree Life
- looking at the variety of life on a tree
Pupils will use a pooter to collect
a variety of species from a single tree. They will count the
species and record number of creatures making their home in a
single tree.

5: Log Piles - looking at the variety of life
in a log pile Pupils will use a
key to identify the creatures that live in a log pile.

6: Wet wildlife
- looking at the variety of life in a pond Pupils will use a
net and bowl to collect
a variety of species from the pond then use a key to identify
them. Activity
7: Bird Life -
surveying birds for half an hour Pupils
will spot and identify the birds they see in the school grounds.
