Activity
1: Waste Not Want Not -
in
the classroom
Pupils will measure the
amount of waste their classroom produces. For this activity, waste is
classified into paper, metals, plastics, biodegradable materials,
batteries and other wastes, all measured in grams.
Activity
2: The Litter Pick - in the playground
Pupils
will collect litter in the playground, both from the litter bins and
from the ground. They will weigh it and try to determine the best
placement of bins in the schools grounds.
Activity 3:
Packed
Lunches - survey of waste from packed lunches
Pupils will collect and weigh the
non organic waste from their packed lunches for a week. They
should look to see if they can reduce, reuse or recycle the
waste.
Activity 4: Reuse
- carrier bags
Pupils will survey the number of
carrier bags used by their family in a week. They separate the
bags into plastic / paper / reusable.
